FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Ombudsman order the government fix my problem?
The Ombudsman recommends changes to resolve unfairness. Although he has strong investigative powers, he cannot order an agency to change its process, policy or decision. Most of the time, public agencies accept the recommendations of the Ombudsman, and negotiation has proven to be very effective. Where there is insufficient evidence to establish that the complaint is justified, the investigation is discontinued and the client is advised.
